Call for Papers

Minisymposium on GPU Computing
organized by Jose R. Herrero, Enrique S. Quintana-Orti, and Robert Strzodka

Call for Participation in Fast Forward Session !!!

Special issue of "Concurrency and Computation: Practice & Experience (CC:P&E)"

Authors of the best papers presented at this minisymposium will be invited to publish extended versions of their work (with at least 30% difference from the conference original papers) in a special issue of the journal CC:P&E. Temptative dates for the issue are:

Submission of Papers: December 31, 2009
Notification of Acceptance / Reviewer Comments: March 20, 2010
Final Papers:April 20, 2010

Abstract:

The recent advances in hardware functionality and programmability of graphics processors (GPUs) have greatly increased their appeal as add-on co-processors for general-purpose computing. With the involvement of the largest processor manufacturers and the strong interest from researchers of various disciplines this approach is moving from a research niche to a forward-looking technique for heterogeneous parallel computing.

The aim of this minisymposium is to bring together experts working on the development of techniques and tools (e.g., compilers, high-level application programming interfaces, etc.) that improve the programmability of GPUs as well as experts interested in utilizing the computational power of GPUs for scientific applications.

To be held at the
PPAM 2009 EIGHTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON PARALLEL PROCESSING AND APPLIED MATHEMATICS
Wroclaw, Poland,
September 13-16, 2009

Submissions:

The rules of PPAM conference apply. In particular:

  • Papers will be refereed and accepted on the basis of their scientific merit, relevance to the workshop topics, originality, correctness and quality of presentation.
  • Accepted papers presented at the Minisymposium will be included into the proceedings and published after the conference by Springer-Verlag in the LNCS series. Abstracts of accepted papers will be available during the conference as a brochure or posted at the web.
  • Authors should submit papers (PDF file) to Enrique S. Quintana-Orti (quintana-at-icc-dot-uji-dot-es) before April 10, 2009. Regular papers are not to exceed 8 pages (LNCS style).
  • Final camera-ready versions of accepted papers will be required by October 31, 2009.

Fast forward session

The minisymposium will have a fast forward slot on Monday at 17:25-17:40, which allows the participants to inform each other about their current work or work demands for GPUs.

If you are interested then prepare at most three slides on a USB drive and come forward during the minisymposium coffee break 15:40-16:00 on Monday so that we can copy all presentations onto one laptop. You will then receive a number indicating the order of your presentations.

All presenters have a strict limit of ONE minute. There will be 10sec for transitioning between the speakers. So overall, we can accommodate approximately 20 fast forward presentations.

Please practice your fast forward presentation to ensure compliance with the ONE minute rule which will be strictly enforced.

As the fast forward slot will end the minisymposium talks on Monday we hope that mutual presentations of the participants will stimulate further discussion afterwards.
