The First Workshop on Service Oriented Architecture in Distributed Systems’11 (SOADS’11)

The First Workshop on Service Oriented Architecture in Distributed Systems’11 (SOADS’11)

To be held in conjunction with the 9th International Conference on Parallel Processing  and Applied Mathematics - PPAM 2011,

Toruń, Poland,

September 11-14, 2011.

The goal of the Workshop is to present the latest research in the field of Service Oriented Distributed Systems (SODS) and Service Oriented Knowledge Utilities (SOKU). We especially seek contributions related to dependability, scalability and adaptability of service-oriented distributed systems and knowledge utilities. The aim of this workshop is to bring together scientists, engineers, and practitioners to share and exchange their experiences, discuss challenges, ongoing work and report on the state-of-the-art in all aspects related to the SOA paradigm.

The SOA (Service-Oriented Architecture) paradigm enables creating heterogeneous information systems that help to make business solutions independent of technological constraints. Systems designed according to this paradigm are composed of services which are executed on user demand. Each service is an implementation of business functionality that can be used in different business processes as well as other services. In this way, basic services can be combined to form more complex ones. Moreover, it is possible to impose some restrictions on the interaction between services of the modeled business process.

Today the SOA paradigm is receiving new dimension in SOKU that delivers methods for acquisition, processing and integration of knowledge. Due to the complexity of SOKU systems, there is a great need for development of descriptive representation methods and procedural knowledge. The SOKU concept can be the response to the rapidly growing demand for the reduction of management costs and the need to improve the effectiveness of business processes. The SOKU approach involves flexible and effective design, implementation, provision and modification of services for many different application areas such as: economy, science, administration, etc.

Suggested topics include (but are not limited to):

  • SOA trends: Web Services, RESTful web services, cloud computing
  • Frameworks and toolkits for SOA/SOKU
  • Business process modeling, service modeling, SOA design patterns
  • Monitoring and management in SOA: metrics, QoS, SLA, performance evaluation
  • Management of SOKU services: qualitative analysis, estimation, design automation and provision of services
  • Dependability and security of SOA/SOKU systems: availability, reliability, safety, integrity, maintainability, confidentiality
  • Service governance: new practises and current platforms
  • Ontologies and semantic based virtual organization management
